"There's nothing quite as valuable as seeing the successes of others who have gone before you."
- James Colquhoun, Producer Director 'Food Matters'

'Rethinking Cancer' tracks the stories of five long-term survivors, whose recoveries range from 15-37 years (and counting), explaining why and how they went a different route with cancer, and, in one case, Lyme disease. Some were led to seek out alternatives after the standard course of treatment failed - literally sent home to die by physicians who said they could do no more for them. Others, after long investigation and soul searching, bravely chose the non-toxic, biorepair course of action because it seemed a more sensible, logical approach - that healing could be better fostered by nourishing, repairing and detoxifying the body, rather than being subjected to toxic substances that would cause further damage and side effects without addressing the underlying problem.

This film features ordinary people who dared to question the medical model:

Rita Znamirowsky - Renal Cell Carcinoma

Rita was faced with a “death sentence” when her renal cell carcinoma was detected in November 1993. Her doctor refused to operate to remove her kidney, saying she was “Stage Four” and should simply go home and die, an event he estimated would transpire within 2 months. At the advice of her husband’s cousin, a kidney specialist in Florida, she flew south intending to immediately have the surgery. When the operation was postponed due to her life-long anemia, Rita reluctantly took the advice of a friend’s son, Daniel Friedkin, who had overcome prostate cancer naturally. Over the course of a year and a half she followed the plan set forth by Friedkin, the number of cancerous nodes gradually decreased in size and number, then disappeared altogether. Rita has been cancer-free for over 15 years.

Michal Ginach - Breast Cancer

Michal received a breast cancer diagnosis and underwent a mastectomy. When Michal baulked at the prospect of radiation and chemotherapy, her oncologist said she would have a less than 15% chance of recovery without treatment.  Not wanting to have a poor quality of life from the side effects of treatment, if this was indeed to be the end of her life, Michal chose a different path... Now a practicing psychotherapist, this mother of two has been cancer-free for over 25 years.

Lou Dina - Bone and Lymph Cancer

In the early 1970s, mechanical engineer and classical guitarist Lou Dina was diagnosed with bone cancer in his wrist which had also spread to his lymphatic system. Following conventional doctor’s orders, Dina received traditional radiation and one treatment of chemo before his “methodical engineer’s mind” led him to seek out possible alternatives. Within a couple of months, he took tests which showed a decrease in cancer activity. With time, Dina’s wrist recovered and he began to again play classical guitar and be a strong patient advocate.

David Walant - Lyme Disease

The experience of Ridgefield, CT resident David Walant demonstrates how bio-repair is a system applicable, essentially, to any kind of chronic disease. When Walant was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 1989, a time when the disease wasn’t widely known, he followed the recommendation of his family physician by taking a course of standard antibiotics. After finishing the course, Walant’s symptoms returned. Changing to a nutritional approach his healing response was rapid. “As I got to the second day, 80% of my symptoms had totally left…”

Doris Sokosh - Breast Cancer

First diagnosed with cancer in 1971, she underwent radical surgery to remove her breast and uterus. When her weight dropped to under 90 lbs, her doctor told her husband she was terminal, there was nothing more that could be done and effectively sent her home to die. Her husband could not accept her fate and began a last chance hope to nourish his wife, who at this point could barely move or speak. Over the course of weeks, Sokosh began to show signs of recovery; with eyes so clear a friend commented “they are white like a baby’s.”

A key factor in these success stories also seems to be that each of the 5 took an active role in designing and carrying out their treatment. These five cases are representative of a large and growing pool of well-documented, long-term recovered patients from across the nation.

The path these patients took may not be for everyone, but it's certainly worth knowing about. Patients and doctors have a right to be informed about all viable medical options, especially when facing a life-and-death struggle with an adversary like cancer.

In addition to their stories, this film includes a thoughtful discussion of the cases by two physicians, Philip Incao M.D., a practitioner of Anthroposophical Medicine and Sheryl Leventhal M.D., a former oncologist presently practicing Functional Medicine. These people represent successes that mainstream medicine and the public ought to know about.

- there are many other options aibvlaale in the US.The real question is BETTER than chemo or radiation really better? I'm a Cancer survivor who owes his life to chemo and radiation therapy. It worked for me. Cancer Treatment Centers of America bases it's
advertising on providing the most and best therapy's aibvlaale for Cancer. I may be biased, being an American- but even so, the research I've done rates America's treatments, drugs, and general procedures a healthy cut above the rest of the world. I guess
my best advice based on my opinion- would be to go with the usual course of treatment prescribed , unless the prognosis or results were terminal.

I tried juicing, Vita-Mix, coffee enemas, RIFE machine, pancreatic enzymes, Kangen water, Energy mats.... when I was diagnosed with Stage IV Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. It was too aggressive and continued to grow. Tried Burzynski Clinic in Houston, $22k and 2 weeks later had to do emergency chemo. Along with double shots of wheat grass, acupuncture, colonics it saved my life where just natural the tumors had taken over and were soooo painful. For some your approach can work, others lose their lives trying it. Foo and lifestyle are the ultimate healers. Be proactive with cancer and live as they say in these videos.

Data generated by each specific scientific research project have significant additional value. They enable other scientists to initiate new projects thanks to the availability of these data. Providing access to the data set of each project makes it possible to save resources, avoid the duplication of efforts, and raise the level of ambition and complexity in each new research project.

We need to bring more awareness to cancer these days as our technologies have gotten so advanced is so many areas, why should we give more focus and spending on cancer research. My friend lost his mom to that terrible desease. I just dont want to see anyone suffer like that again.

Rethinking Cancer by Ruth Sackman is an excellent companion book to the film. It shifts the focus of treatment from symptoms - the tumor or abnormal blood picture – to correcting the cause of the health breakdown in the body as a whole. The goal is not tumor reduction, as in conventional protocols. Rather, the yardstick of success is the long term recovery of the patient, i.e., returning the body to as normal a state of health as possible.

Cancer is a horrible disease. The most horrible thing is that in most cases doctors can't do anything about that. Few ages ago people were dying from flu and other simple illnesses because there were no medications against it. However nowadays we have plenty of those, so let's hope that after 10 or 20 years we will have some medications against cancer too. Thanks for the great article by the way!
