Ellen is a Functional Nutritionist, Holistic Health Coach, and Massage Therapist. Her interest in holistic health and wellness began in 1984 while she was a sophomore in college. Three elective courses in particular—Holistic Health, The Psychology of Consciousness, and The Human Instrument—provided many potent “Aha!” moments that opened her heart and mind to the unlimited possibilities of human consciousness and the body’s innate potential for healing.
Over the following decade, Ellen’s interest in natural healing would become significantly amplified, expanded, and turned towards Self as she was challenged with her own healing crisis.
While working on a film set in 1987, a billboard prop collapsed and one of the beams struck her on the head, knocking her unconscious and causing long-term damage to her neck, shoulders, and memory. Seven years later, still in post-trauma recovery, the cumulative stresses of life, an unraveling domestic relationship, and a highly stressful design job in a manufacturing environment converged to create what Ellen refers to as "the great cosmic meltdown”—simply put, she crashed and burned.
She was chronically fatigued, overwhelmed, depressed and anxious; suffered terrible headaches and body pain; always felt cold and unable to keep warm; had trouble eating and sleeping; and seemed to be allergic to everything. Since all of her lab results were all within 'normal' ranges, a formal diagnosis was elusive. She was sent from one specialist to another, and each one would prescribe yet another medication. The prescriptions increased her physical symptoms and left her feeling even more emotionally discouraged and isolated.
Knowing there had to be a better way, Ellen began seeking out various complementary and alternative therapies that were known to address the whole person as body-mind-spirit in an effort to restore balance and harmony within her frazzled being. These explorations beyond the box of conventional medicine provided her with a direct and deeply profound understanding of the benefits proper nutrition, high quality vitamin, mineral and botanical formulas, massage, meditation, exercise such as yoga and qi gong, as well as chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture treatments, and psychotherapy and counseling as safe and effective drug-free therapies for restoring health.
Ellen’s personal recovery from debilitating pain and autoimmune distress crystallized her passion and dedication for helping others overcome their ailments.
Since 1999, Ellen has logged more than 25,000 hours of patient-client contact as a clinical massage therapist and holistic wellness consultant. Wanting to do more to help people heal, Ellen returned to graduate school in 2012 to study advanced human nutrition and functional medicine.
In August 2014, she was conferred Master of Science with Honors in Applied Clinical Nutrition from New York Chiropractic College, School of Applied Clinical Nutrition; and in 2016 completed the rigorous requirements for the Certified Nutrition Specialist credential under the clinical supervision and mentorship of doctors W. David Bond, DC, of Bond Chiropractic Inc. in Valley Village, CA, and Corey B. Schuler, RN, DC, CNS, of Metabolic Treatment Center in Hudson, WI.
